About us

In 2014, the ONEMA and the BRGM came together to create a research, development and innovation cluster to promote interoperability of distributed information systems, based on the French Water Information Systems (WIS-F) use case.

The ONEMA is in charge of the technical coordination of the WIS-F, a set of national and regional (basin level) tools, largely distributed and operated on a partnership basis. This information system comes in support of a water management driven by knowledge and helps assessing and steering public policies.

The BRGM is responsible for developing interoperable Information systems for environmental and geoscientific data management and distribution, while providing related web services.

The INSIDE cluster joins together members of the French Geological Survey (BRGM) and the French agency for Water and aquatic environments (ONEMA), on 3 main areas:

  • Distributed information system organization and architecture
  • Benchmarking new solutions for data acquisition and distribution
  • Implementing and tuning up interoperable web services and processes

The clusters works are fueled by the specification requirements issued mostly by WIS-F itself, but also potentially coming from any other environmental information system. The main objective of the cluster activities is to put forward a variety of solutions or demonstrators that meet technical, methodological or organizational issues. A particular attention was brought to transfer these solutions into operational tools.
